2019 Low Country Boil

posted May 4, 2019, 5:54 AM by Webmaster SSC

Ahoy Sailors,
Let's (kick) sail into summer, and get into the mood to prepare for Southern Sailing's Low Country Boil.
Saturday, June 1, at the pavilion inside Aqualand Marina. Pavilion is at immediate left, after guardhouse gate entrance.
Festivities will start around 4:00 pm and yummy food should be ready to eat around 6:00.
We'll have fizzy water and soft drinks, as well as beer (Yuengling and Bud Lite) plus red and white wine.
Our SSC master cook Bird Fleming and others will be here to add real Cajun tastes, exemplified by last year's Commodore, John Schewe.
Come sit around a fine summer sunshine day to enjoy this free food in your sailing club.
Bring some extra folding or camp chairs. (But don't bring dogs or other pets.)
There is no charge, a must-do free event for all members, to start your summer.
Bring all your many friends at $5/per adult; or twist their arms to join our club. Associate membership is only $30/year = half of 5/a month!
It's important that you confirm the number of people in your party attending, so we can order and cook sufficient food.
Sign-up sheet is coming, but don't wait!

Happy Fun Sailing

Commodore's Ball Update

posted Jan 16, 2019, 11:46 AM by Commodore SSC

Hello all,

I will be cancelling our TicketTailor account on the evening of Thursday the 17th to avoid another monthly charge of $25. However, I don't have to give a final head count until the morning of Monday the 21st. If you decide you would like to attend and it is between Friday and Sunday evening, please contact me directly and I'll put you on the list. You will then have to bring a check to the event.

I hope some of you "on the fence" will be able to make it. Take care,

John Schewe

Beer Me Tender Rescheduled

posted Aug 17, 2018, 10:39 AM by Commodore SSC   [ updated Aug 31, 2018, 6:07 AM ]

Hello all,

Due to the high chance of bad weather, the Beer Me Tender has been postponed until Saturday, the 25th. We will still meet at Nani Cove around 3:00 pm. There will be club beer (Yuengling and Bud LIte), fizzy water and soft drinks in three coolers in an inflatable kayak. We are asking all participants to bring a six pack (or two) of your favorite beer to share with the group. My apologies if this is an inconvenience to anyone, but I think it is the right call.

Pirate Party on Saturday, July 21st

posted Jul 17, 2018, 12:02 PM by Commodore SSC   [ updated Jul 31, 2018, 1:56 PM ]

Ahoy and a hearty "argh" to all Southern Sailors,

Gather up your best pirate gear and head on over to Sunset Cove located on the west side of Lights Ferry Island (Marker 10TM) on Saturday, July 21st for the annual Pirate Party. Once again, John and Nancy Martin will be the Masters of Ceremonies for this fun event that will include pirate stories and a treasure hunt for the kids. Beer (Yuengling and Bud Lite), red and white wine, Shandys, fizzy water and soft drinks will be provided. Festivities will begin around 2:00 or thereabouts and hamburgers and hot dogs will be served around 6:00. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and don't forget you lawn chairs.

There is no charge for this event for club members and $5/adult for guests. It is important to get an accurate head count so we can have enough food and drink without overbuying. A sign-up sheet has been e-mailed to everyone, so please submit one if you are planning on attending (thanks to those who have already done so).

Looking f-argh-ward to seeing you there.

Low Country Boil

posted Apr 15, 2018, 9:13 AM by Commodore SSC   [ updated Apr 16, 2018, 10:07 AM ]

Ahoy Southern Sailors,

Get out your "bibs" and prepare for Southern Sailing's Low Country Boil to be held on Saturday, May 5th at the pavilion at Aqualand Marina (just to the left of the entrance gate). The festivities will begin around 4:00 pm and the food should be ready to eat around 6:00. There will be beer (Yuengling and Bud Lite), boxed wine (red and white), fizzy water and soft drinks.

Bird Fleming and Daryl & Laura Greenberg will be the master cooks with an added Cajun touch courtesy of your commodore, John Schewe (actually a Yankee from New York, but a 26-year resident of New Orleans). So, bring your appetites and some camp chairs and don't miss the fun.

There is no charge for this event for current members. There will be a $5/adult charge for non-members (unless, that is, you pay your dues at the event).

There will be a sign-up sheet soon and it is really important that you let us know if you will be attending and how many in your party so we can order the proper amount of food.

Hope to see many of your there. Until then, happy sailing!

2018 Chili Cook-off

posted Feb 12, 2018, 6:45 AM by Commodore SSC   [ updated Feb 12, 2018, 6:58 AM ]

Saturday, March 10th will be the annual SSC Chili Cook-off to be held at Sunrise Cove Clubhouse. Festivities will begin at 4:00 with tasting and judging starting at 6:00. Remember to bring a muffin tin as this is the best way to sample all the different chilies. Prizes for the three best chilies will be awarded.

Beer (Bud Lite and Yuengling regular), boxed red and white wines, soft drinks and fizzy water will be provided. There is no additional charge for this event.

This is also a good time to pay your annual dues. Now, you don't have to wait until then to do this - just go to the link on this site's Home Page (just above the Calendar) and you can pay on-line.

As we did last year we will be presenting the awards from 2017's racing events as well as this year's Belden Cup. Get your crews to join us in a wonderful evening of food and fellowship.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
