Saturday April 23rd • Annual Paella Party

Thanks to all the 50+ sailors who participated in our annual Paella Party. We had some members we hadn't seen in awhile and some new faces.

Our members are fantastic cooks...we had phenomenal appetizers and desserts. After a great meal we had our first bonfire of the year.

A special thanks to Shannon Rutledge and Scott Rutledge for shopping and doing all the prep work!  Somehow Scott even found the time to brew a fantastic beer that he shared. Also thanks to Chris and Britt Henesy for their help in setting up, cleaning up and cooking. A big hug to John Martin for gathering all supplies needed. There are to many others that helped clean up to name but their help was tremendous.

Thanks once again for all who organized, cooked, cleaned and participated in our paella party.

Sunday April 24th • Master’s Race

First thing, I'd like to apologize for Mother Nature not giving us the desired amount of wind to do a 7 mile course, in a timely manner!  Not only did we not get the wind speed we would have loved but I think we had every wind direction except the one that was forecasted.  That being said, we still went out and drifted around the lake and had a good time watching the crazy power boaters go nuts!!

At the first mark we had two boats bail out but four more continued to slug along.  After it was all said and done, three of the four finished with one running out of time.  That one was yours truly. With several hundred yards left to go an only 15 minutes of time remaining, I bailed.  Congrats to the teams that finished and this years winners, Jim Chambers - High Performance and George Chretien - Racer Cruiser.

If you don't know, I heard that George and Susan of Moonstruck will be leaving us for bigger water and bigger winds very soon and that this may have been their last race with southern.  I'm really going to miss these guys and hope they'll stay in touch and come visit us when they can!

Next Saturday we have the Lormand Cup.  This is a race for all the single handers on the lake.  I hope for a great turnout and hope to see many of you there.  The NOR and SI's can be found on the calendar for the Lormand Cup.
